What is the currency used in the Bahamas?

The BSD is the national currency. It is equal to the USD (BSD$1=USD$1). BSD and USD are acceptable forms of payment wherever you go.

Can I use my credit card at shops, restaurants, etc?

Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted credit cards. Although more and more small businesses are moving toward this form of payment, the majority of transactions with the locals will require cash. We suggested asking before you purchase or receive any service.

Is it necessary to rent a golf cart?

Bimini is not a large island and Katt’s Kottages is centrally situated within walking access to activities, dining, and entertainment. So, although not necessary, renting a golfcart allows you the freedom of movement to explore the remainder of the island that walking may not allow especially in the warmer months.

Do I need a passport and visa to visit the island?

All travelers will require a valid passport and proof of departure.

Visa requirements vary from country to country as well as the length of stay so we recommend checking your requirements online.

Can I buy groceries on the island?

Many guests tend to find that groceries are a little expensive here, but you may bring with you up to $100 p.p. in groceries DUTY FREE WITH A RECEIPT.  That figure includes any tobacco products (limited to one carton of cigarettes p.p.) and alcoholic beverages (limited to two liters p.p.)  General provisions are readily available, however, if you have special dietary needs or favourite brands, I suggest you bring those items with you. NO FRESH FRUITS OR VEGETABLES ALLOWED.

When is the best time to visit Bimini?

That depends on the experience you are hoping for.

Our peak season is between May 1st and September 30th, which are also the warmest months of the year. The island is bustling with boaters, visitors and anglers and is the busiest time of the year. It is a great time for beachgoers and sunbathers.

The remainder of the year, as the weather begins to cool, things move at a slower pace but there are still lots of things to do. Although the water temperature dips, there are plenty of sunny days to take advantage of.
